Letters to Betty at 80: Reflections on 80 Authentic, Wise and Eccentric Years, chronicles the gradual transition from youth to adulthood to elder years, as seen through the eyes of octogenarian, Mary Bub. “I am open to learning not only about the aging process but more about myself, personally and as a part of my family and my relationship to others and the world around me,” Bub writes.
She encourages readers to not just follow along on her eightieth trip around the sun, but to travel with her. Letters to Betty at 80 explores themes that readers of any age can relate to—feeling out of place, acceptance versus resignation, perspective, and familial relationships—with the unique perspective of someone who has lived a long life. Reflective questions following each journal entry encourage readers to examine their own lives and find meaning in their experiences.
